Having worked in IT my entire career, understanding what users need and delivering solutions to meet and surpass those needs has been essential and very rewarding. Now working in the non-profit sector, delivering solutions based on the Salesforce platform we can make an incredible difference and really help our clients engage with technology, assist them with their day-to-day activities and having the information at hand, allowing them to better engage with their teams and clients. This gives me a real sense of achievement and satisfaction.

Experience

I started working for Commercial Union (now Aviva Plc) and stayed there for 20 years, delivering high budget solutions and projects which could span years, and several of which won internal recognition awards. I moved to Time Technology in 2008 following an IT offshoring programme which was a regular thing in the early 2000’s. Moving from a global, corporate environment of thousands of staff to a much smaller environment was initially a challenge which I adapted to, embraced, and learnt new skills.

Time Technology at that time was an IBM Business Partner working with IBM Lotus and we delivered bespoke solutions to SMB customers. I enjoyed the diversity of our solutions and being responsible for all aspects of a solution from initial scoping, full design concepts through to delivery, QA, testing and support. One key difference I see with Time Technology is that we keep working with our customers measuring in years and decades, not weeks and months, which is again very satisfying, building and maintaining these relationships with honesty and trust.

We transitioned from IBM solutions to Salesforce several years ago as we recognised key features that were similar in nature, values that aligned to ours and skills that could transfer easily and again deliver strong solutions using this technology. We quickly recognised that the non-profit area also aligned well with both the company and the team members. I passed my Salesforce Administrator Certification shortly after and have enjoyed working and delivering solutions for our non-profit clients ever since.

Favourite Salesforce Feature(s)

Email integration; I witness the power of this every time I introduce clients to this feature and see the spark igniting as people recognise how much time it will save them every day. I smile every time.

Flow; Imagination is your limit. Being a traditional line by line coder for many years, I have always delivered automation but Flows in Salesforce make pretty much anything possible from entering some information, fixing some data or process, or scheduling functions so that everything is just how the client needs it, when they need it.

Education

Instead of university, I was accepted for one of seven places available with Commercial Union (now Aviva plc) for an advanced IT programmer apprenticeship. This was a 2-year intense learning programme covering all aspects of IT from analysis, design, structured programming, testing along with team and project management. I’ve never looked back.
