I am passionate about the role the non-profit sector can play in improving people’s lives, providing greater chances for society and making an impact in so many areas of unmet need. Having worked for both youth and medical research charities, I know the impact and the difference having great technology can make, both in supporting their mission but also underpinning the foundations that make delivering their mission possible – fundraising, communications, finance, HR and, of course, great governance.

I chose to join Time Technology as their focus was solely on the non-profit sector and therefore I would be able to use my skills and experience to help a much larger number of charities leverage the benefits of Salesforce. The part of my role I love the most is working through requirements with a client, understanding their needs and being able to suggest solutions that I know will improve their efficiency and ways of working.

Experience

Having started my career in the commercial sector, I moved to the charity sector in 2004, initially working for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as their Head of Marketing and Communications. I was keen to move to a sector that was about making a difference. In total, I have over 16 years’ senior experience within various aspects of the sector, including Director of Fundraising and Communications and Development Director (Supporter Services, CRM/IT). I played key roles in implementing systems for other functions, including Finance and Grant Making, as well as providing interim leadership to support services teams.

Throughout my career I have used systems to provide data for impact reporting and factual decision making. I first implemented Salesforce in 2014 for The Brain Tumour Charity, bringing together disparate systems across the charity and providing a single source of truth for the organisation. The use of Salesforce supported the charity’s significant growth, both in fundraising and its work towards its charitable objectives, which include grant making, providing support and information services and actively campaigning for improvements in diagnosis times, research investment and care within the NHS for those diagnosed.

Favourite Salesforce Feature(s)

Favorites! Such a simple feature but for me to be able to quickly access records, reports, list views, that I use all the time from anywhere within a Nonprofit Org, is time saving. I also like the fact I can name them what I like without breaking any data structures, making it easy to find the item I am looking for.

Favourite Trailhead

Reports & Dashboards for Lightning Experience – this is one I recommend to all clients as it really shows them the power of what they can do with their data, evidencing their impact through reports and dashboards. It doesn’t matter what customisations they have in their Salesforce Org, this just explains very simply how reports and dashboards can be created, no matter what their data structure is. It also shows people you don’t have to be a tech wizard to be able to be able to create them!
