Having spent my working life in commercial IT, I am very much enjoying the chance to leverage that experience in the Nonprofit Sector. The projects Time Technology undertakes for charities and other nonprofit organisations have many similar challenges to those you might face in commercial IT, but the results are wildly more rewarding.

The organisations we work with do truly wonderful things and if we can help them do that just a little bit more efficiently, then I will be very happy with the direction we have chosen.

Experience

After a number of years spent working my way around the world, I started more serious employment in 1995 – with Time Technology! Back then, Time Technology developed business solutions based on a product called Lotus Notes. After a short while, I took charge of a product that we had developed to synchronise mobiles devices (phones and handheld computers) with other data sources, typically calendars and contact databases. This was pretty successful and led us to form a new company in 1997 focused solely on developing this one product. Eventually, having shipped our software on hundreds of millions of mobile phones, the technology was sold to Nokia in 2011.

After a well (in my opinion) earned break, I returned to work as an independent consultant, focusing particularly on IT startups, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions. It was in this capacity that I reconnected with Time Technology, and by 2014, I was back in the fold. Motivated by the opportunity of delivering solutions to the third sector, I was more than happy to once again become a shareholder in the company I have been involved with for most of my working life.

Favourite Salesforce Feature

Not really a feature as such, but I love that all of our customers’ data on all of their stakeholders can be held in one place. Salesforce acts as the institutional memory of the organisation, which allows charities to understand all of the engagements taking place and make better, more data-driven decisions. Ultimately, this gives charities the tools to be the best versions of themselves.
